Happy Friday everyone! Early next week we will release a video outlining our progress around planning for reopening and the different scenarios that exist. It still will be closer to the end of July before we can commit to exactly which plan will be in place on August 17 but we wanted to talk through some of the different options out there. There will also be a very important survey accompanying the video that we need 100% of families to fill out so we can plan for who will or will not show up to in person instruction if we are allowed to have it. Just a reminder, we are diligently working on fall reopening plans. We plan to announce detailed information the week of July 20th. Queremos hacerle saber que hemos establecido un Equipo de Reapertura de Escuelas que está trabajando activamente en los planes para el otoño y enviaremos una encuesta a los padres a principios de la próxima semana para que nos den su opinión y sus ideas. Comenzaremos a actualizarlo sobre la planificación del progreso semanal a partir de la próxima semana. I know many of you are very curious and concerned about what school will look like in August. I wanted to let you know that we have established a School Reopening Team that is actively working on plans for the fall and we will be sending a parent survey early next week out to families for input and ideas. We will start updating you on planning progress weekly beginning next week. Our goal is to create a plan that emphasizes both student learning and safety for all stakeholders. It's a complex and difficult time right now but we are working hard to do what is best for everyone involved.
8th Grade Families, I wanted to provide an update on the June 22nd scheduled 8th Grade promotion ceremony. After consultation with our board and seeking both legal advice and recommendations by health officials, we do not at this time feel comfortable holding in person ceremonies at this time. With the infection rate currently on the rise in Greenville County and with many of the hardest hit areas being communities we serve, we feel it is our duty to promote health and safety above all. Everyone has their own opinions about the seriousness of COVID and the need for social distancing or staying home and we respect all of those varying opinions and desires. However, as a school, it is our duty to not expose staff and family members to unnecessary risk or exposure when many are also caring for family members who may be at high risk for serious health complications. While we strongly desire to honor 8th grade students and their families, we also strongly desire to be cautious and considerate of the current health situation. With that said, in person ceremonies for June 22nd are cancelled. We will continue to discuss ways to honor 8th grade students and families and will release more information at a later time. We know this decision may please some and disappoint others but it is a very complicated and difficult situation and decision and feel we are doing what is best for everyone involved. Mrs. Ide was gracious enough to put together a slideshow video of pictures past and present of 8th graders. I will be uploading that to Youtube for you to view later this week. Thank you.
Familias de octavo grado, quería brindarles una actualización sobre la ceremonia de promoción programada para el 8 de junio. Después de consultar con nuestra junta y buscar asesoramiento legal y recomendaciones de los funcionarios de salud, en este momento no nos sentimos cómodos celebrando ceremonias en persona en este momento. Con la tasa de infección actualmente en aumento en el Condado de Greenville y con muchas de las áreas más afectadas como comunidades a las que servimos, creemos que es nuestro deber promover la salud y la seguridad sobre todo.
