Kindergarten creating art today in the style of Piet Mondrian.

Dear Parents/Guardians:
This past Sunday, 10/11/2020, we were informed two sibling students were exposed to a family member that tested positive for COVID 19 in grades 1 and 5. Through contact tracing, we confirmed that 3 teachers within those grades were in close contact with the exposed students. It has been confirmed that the 5th grade student tested positive for COVID-19. Out of an abundance of caution, 1st grade students are included in the 14-day quarantine. Lead Academy took proactive measures and excluded the exposed faculty and both grades levels of students before an official confirmation of a positive case was provided.
Lead Academy not only has the task of providing our students with a high quality education, but have also been deemed the task of keeping our students, faculty, staff, and families safe during a pandemic. During this process we have become more knowledgeable in improving our systems and procedures in the building, and also how to communicate to families in a timely manner. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we strive to keep all stakeholders safe.
Students in grades 1 and 5, and siblings of these students, will return to in-person instruction on Monday October 26, 2020, which will complete a 14-day quarantine window.
We continue to encourage all parents to temperature scan and monitor students closely for any sign of potential illness. Students should remain at home if they are exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19 including fever, new or persistent cough, headache, loss of taste or smell, fatigue and/or stomach issues (diarrhea).
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at cubaker@myleadacademy.com or Carlie Feno at cafeno@myleadacademy.com
Thank you
Estimados padres / guardianes:
Gracias

High School Enrollment for 2021 - 2022
If you are interested in your child attending a Greenville County High School, click the link below for information regarding open enrollment for 2021 - 2022.
Lead Academy is not a Greenville County School therefore parents will need to enroll their child at the school they are zoned for, apply for special permission if you would like your child to attend a different school, or apply for a magnet program. Keep in mind applying for special permission and applying for a magnet program are two different things. Applications for both of these options open in November.

We will send information about charter high school options in the near future.

8th Grade spent time simulating the difficult task of extracting a fossil from the Earth (using a chocolate chip-M&M cookie!). They used a variety of tools, and counted the number of whole "fossils" and fragmented "fossils". At the end, we discussed the importance (and difficulty) of being careful as to not damage the fossils so that they can be fully studied.

This week's Table Talk is all about Serve Well! MLK said that "everyone can be great because everyone can serve". This week, we focus on finding the intersection of our talent, our interest, and a need in our community so that we can create opportunities in our lives and make a difference in our communities.
We'd love to see some fo the action plans students come up with for how they can Serve Well. Email those to your teacher or to me (lscott@myleadacademy.com)!

Dear parents,
This week you will be receiving a progress report for your child. Our progress reports will look different than years past. Instead of receiving a letter or numerical grade, our vision is to give parents a more holistic view at student progress towards mastery of content. Included in each report, each student should have attached specific and meaningful comments from each teacher for both ELA and Math. These comments and reports should give you a better idea of where students are currently and a plan to help progress students towards mastery. Please let me know if you have any questions. At the end of the first nine weeks, you will receive a jump rope report and log in.
Thanks,
Curtis Baker

Estimados padres,
Gracias,
Curtis Baker

We are excited to welcome 6th – 8th grade in-person students the week of 10/5. On each students first day, parents are welcome to park and walk their students into the front lobby and take a first day of school picture in front of the Lead Falcon Mural. Everyone must be temperature checked and wear a mask while maintaining social distance from other families. We will not be allowing any parents to go all the way to the classroom to keep germs away. Also, please make sure you bring a full water bottle and a mask to wear at times during the day when it is necessary. You may begin arriving at 7:10 and classes will begin at 7:50. We will dismiss at 2:15 each day.
For the first week back for the 5th grade problem solvers we took a look at what it would take to be a problem solver. The 5th graders identified perseverance as a key factor. To practice perseverance, students were tasked with building a tower out of just marshmallows and toothpicks. The task definitely required perseverance and they had fun too!

Last week, first grade learned about warm and cool colors. They printed warm or cool dots on paper, using the hallway as our art studio so we could spread out and make art in a new space. Then, they traced circles, cut them out, and created warm and cool dot collages. Even with COVID protocols, art can still be active and fun!
